Gripfibre is a bitumen mixture applied in the cold state with continuous and discontinuous grading curve of fraction 0/5 or 0/8 with fibres added. It is applied into wearing courses in the thickness of about 10 mm.

Innovation character of the developed product lies in the fibre synthesis in the formula. These fibres enable the existence of formula with discontinuous grading curve without segregation risk and also ensure the achievement of a permanent rough surface. They eliminate the risk of emulsion drain and bounce, drawing of speck when the areas are being made available.

Gripfi bre is a mixture of aggregate, cation active bitumen emulsion, stabilizators, water and special added substances – synthetic fibres. Fibres are the primary part of Gripfi bre formula. Their origin is organic and they are over 4 mm long. Their proportioning, controlled in compliance with the aggregate proportioning, ensures that 1 m2 of this carpet is reinforced by several million of fibres. It is adjusted to all transportation loadings and ensures imperviousness and permanent adhesion of the road.

Production and laying

The aggregate for each sort of Gripfi bre is prepared in advance according to the fraction ratio defined in the production provision. Gripfi bre is laid by a special machine Breining SAL 2000 with tanks for individual components – aggregate, emulsion, fibres, fission regulator, including own water supply. Mixing of the mixture runs continually in the machine with the guaranteed volume or weight proportion and flowmeter. The mixed mixture is distributed by the conveyer into the middle of a hanging frame with side covers and a worm lays the mixture to the full width. Gripfi bre can be applied in one or two layers.

If the subbase is properly profiled, the application of one layer is suitable. The second layer can be laid only to a certain extent of a subbase deformation (measured in the transverse direction by a 2-metre long rod and in the longitudinal direction by a rod with the length from 4 m to 8 mm).

Works by Gripfi bre technology are realized with a guarantee time of 24 months.

Usage and effectiveness

Gripfi bre can be used for all classes of transportation loadings of roads and hardened areas for transportation and other usage. After the laying, it creates a continuous bitumen layer on the surface of roads or hardened areas and it protects from water penetration, covers porous surfaces, microcracks and contributes to the roughness recovery and prolongs the life of roads.
 

Principles of mixture application:

The subbase must be mechanically cleaned from the left dirt, local faults and knockouts must be repaired. Gripfi bre can be laid under the following conditions:

• The weather must be without permanent showers or rain
• The air temperature must be min. +10 ^oC and cannot drop under +5 ^oC for the last 24 hours
• When the weather forecast predicts the drop in temperature under the freezing point within 24 hours of the laying, the work must be stopped
• The optimum temperature for executing Gripfi bre is between +15 ^oC and +25 ^oC
• Wet surface does not represent any obstacle for laying the mixture

In 2005, the adjustment by GRIPFIBRE in Slovakia was executed in the scope of 234 675 sqm.
